virtualVE: About virtualVE and virtualVE.com
History
The Virtual Volunteer Examiner program came into being
after a certain ten year old carelessly lost track of his
fancy $100 calculator that was required for school, and allowed
it to sprout legs and walk away.
Needing to learn something about responsibility,
and to address the fact that his father was not responding
favourably to requests for a replacement calculator,
said ten year old needed to find a way to earn some of his own money.
Thanks to grass allergies, mowing lawns was not an attractive option;
thus, the concept of the Virtual VE was born.
Using his father as the test subject, the user interface was refined,
and the first "commercially available" version of the virtualVE was
introduced at the Saratoga (NY) Hamfest in Ballston Spa NY in September 1996.
